Megan James (nee Fleischfresser) is Councillor, consultant and small business owner with 30 years’ professional experience backed by a business degree (public relations, marketing and journalism) and qualifications in facilitation, and pastoral care and chaplaincy.
After growing up on a Dalby cotton and grain farm, Megan forged a career in public relations, commencing in the energy industry and going on to consultancy and inhouse roles across agriculture, property development, construction, education and health. Her career path took her to Brisbane, regional Qld, Ohio (USA) and Newcastle (NSW) before returning ‘home’ to the Western Downs in 2004. Here she worked remotely as a senior consultant for a respected Brisbane communications firm, and later headed up marketing for Dalby-based 'Top-100 Australian' accounting firm. A role which led her into family succession planning and team building. Over the years, she has also held a number of volunteer board roles including Dalby Chamber of Commerce and Lutheran Community Care. She studied a Cert IV in Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy, completing her prac at Dalby South State School in 2019.
In 2020, Megan was elected as a Councillor for Western Downs Regional Council and established a boutique consultancy dubbed 'Joyous Chaos'. She has been blessed with a 24-year marriage to Simon and the privilege of raising three children (now aged 21, 19 and 17). The James' family runs a reputable haulage business Western Downs Transport (est. in 2011) where Megan looks after the book-keeping and administration.
Megan has a strong interest in life-long learning, is an avid reader and podcast listener, and has undertaken further training in local government and leadership. A passion for intergenerational connection, she is equally at home with kindergarteners, young people, aged care residents and all in between. She keeps active in life through music, singing, (occasional dancing-like-nobody's-watching), emceeing, trivia, walking, pilates and netball, and is an enthusiastic participant in school, sport and faith communities.
